The Berlin Airlift, 1948–1949. At the end of the Second World War, U.S., British, and Soviet military forces divided and occupied Germany. Also divided into occupation zones, Berlin was located far inside Soviet-controlled eastern Germany.
The Berlin airlift. On 26 June 1948, Western allies started a massive airlift to counter the Berlin blockade imposed by the Soviet regime. More broadly, it tells the story of the city of Berlin from the end of World War II to the building of the Berlin Wall in 1961.
