Theory of science is a philosophical discipline, but is also located in a context of other disciplines dealing with “science” as their object, and has a long tradi-tion of philosophical theories of knowledge.
The aim of philosophy of science is to understand what scientists did and how they did it, where history of science shows that they performed basic research very well.
