By embedding statistics, probability, and finance, while focusing on computational thinking, mathematical fluency, and solid understanding, Texas will lead the way in mathematics education and prepare all Texas students for the challenges they will face in the 21st century.
Curriculum Standards. Because of student mobility, Texas has adopted curriculum standards that are to be used in all the state's public schools. The current standards, which outline what students are to learn in each course or grade, are called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
Readiness standards are essential for success in the current grade and important for preparedness for the next grade or course. They address broad and deep ideas and require in‐depth instruction. These standards make up approximately 55-70% of the total points on the base test.
