  1. Symptomatic thoracic discogenic pain syndrome (TDPS) is a rare phenomenon making it challenging to diagnose. The rarity of TDPS is attributed to the particular orientation, structure, and function of the thoracic spine in the vertebral column.

  4. Pain is the most common symptom of a thoracic herniated disc and may be isolated to the upper back or radiate in a dermatomal (single nerve root) pattern. Thoracic back pain may be exacerbated when coughing or sneezing.

  5. Tighten your abdominal muscles to stiffen your spine. While keeping your abdominals tight, raise one arm and the opposite leg away from you. Hold this position for 5 seconds. Lower your arm and leg slowly and alternate sides. Do this 10 times on each side. Extension exercise: Lie face down on the floor for 5 minutes.

  6. Pain in your thoracic spine. Pain in the thoracic (upper) area of the back is common in people who sit bent forwards for long periods, espe-cially students and typists, and those who lift constantly (such as nursing mothers).
