20 Σεπ 2022 · How long does it take to recover from thoracic surgery? Thoracic surgery recovery time varies depending on the type of operation you had. You may spend a week in the hospital after your thoracic surgery. But if you had minimally invasive surgery, you may need only three or four days to recover.
Our technique for thoracoplasty begins with a posteriorly based periscapular incision. Dissection through skin and posterior chest wall muscles is performed until the chest wall is reached. Next, the subperiosteal resection of several ribs is performed. Typically 4 to 5 ribs are removed.
The delay between drainage of the infected cavity and thoracoplasty ranged from 8 days to 20 months (median, 97 days). An extramusculoperiosteal thoracoplasty was performed in 22 patients (85%) after OWT (Figs 2, 3), intercostal drainage, and cavernostomy in 16, 4, and 2 patients, respectively.
