21 Αυγ 2019 · Thousand Island Lake is a postcard waiting to happen – a beautiful blue lake with a wild collection of islands below a massive mountain. You won’t be able to fully appreciate Thousand Island Lake from the junction of High Trail (PCT) and John Muir Trail, so explore farther.
A wilderness permit is required year round for: Overnight trips into John Muir, Ansel Adams, Golden Trout, Hoover Wilderness, and the wilderness portions of Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. Day Use of the Mt. Whitney Zone. Group Leaders Responsibility.
Permit: Required for all overnight hikes and available through Recreation.gov. There are three main starting trailheads and each one is popular. Date Hiked: 7/2-7/3, 2021. Chances are high that even if you have never been to Thousand Island Lake, you have seen a photo of it somewhere.
The High Trail and Shadow Creek Trail have separate permit quotas. Day use does not require a permit. May 1 through November 1 quota limits visitors to 30 people per day; Open Season: Road closed in winter. Restrictions: No campfires at Thousand Island, Garnet, Ruby, Emerald, Badger or Clark Lakes.
