Yellowing Leaves. When some plants sense that the thrip damage to their leaves is significant, they choose to discard it. This involves pulling out the remaining nutrients which changes the leaf color yellow. Premature drying, and shedding of leaves is common with heavy infestations.

Common colours for the adults are brown, black or yellow and when in the larvae stage, they are a yellow, greenish colour .
Heavily infested plants will show yellow and brown, almost stippled patches in an irregular pattern, and new growth can look stunted, contorted, or deformed. You may also see sooty black spots along leaves or stems. This is thrips fecal matter, which can also be a vector for disease.
