Common colours for the adults are brown, black or yellow and when in the larvae stage, they are a yellow, greenish colour .
Heavily infested plants will show yellow and brown, almost stippled patches in an irregular pattern, and new growth can look stunted, contorted, or deformed. You may also see sooty black spots along leaves or stems. This is thrips fecal matter, which can also be a vector for disease.
Thrips can be difficult to detect due to their size and because they often hide in the leaf litter or on the undersides of leaves. Spotting the damage they're causing to your plant is often a more reliable way to alert you to their presence.
