The SmartEX app for booking Tokaido Sanyo and Kyushu shinkansen tickets. We don't typically need the JR Pass for our itineraries, so being able to quickly book cheap tickets (since they have discounted ticket categories) through the app was great.
Yahoo Transit is my app of choice, but if you cannot read Japanese, then the best app available to you is Hyperdia. Google Map’s routes are very inefficient and tend to prioritize speed over ease of use. There’s no need to memorize every train line. The apps will serve you well enough as visitors.
The app will work to find routes using both the Tokyo Metro and the Tokyo municipal subway (Toei). Once you have it downloaded even if you are not connected to the internet you can use it so it will be very useful for people that do not have a wireless connectivity plan in Japan.
Thus, IMO, it's better to just use a prepaid card, Suica or Pasmo, which can be used for local JR, non-JR trains and Subways (both Metro and Toei) than to use the Subway Pass in Tokyo.

23 Αυγ 2024 · Gurunavi is a great and easy to use restaurant-finder app for both iOS and Android. It lets you select your prefecture (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, etc.) and the area where you are. Once you have selected where you want to eat, the app shows you restaurant search results by cuisine such as: Sushi/Seafood; Okonomiyaki/Takoyaki; Yakiniku (BBQ)
