The Federal Trade Commission, along with 46 agencies from 38 states and D.C., has stopped a massive telefunding operation that bombarded 67 million consumers with 1.3 billion deceptive charitable fundraising calls (mostly illegal robocalls). The defendants collected more than $110 million using their deceptive solicitations.
Charity Scams. Charities use a wide variety of methods to solicit charitable donations. Many legitimate charities are able to use email, social media, and Internet fundraising pages to lower costs and access donors.

You may also wish to file a report with a regional fraud reporting center, such as the Internet Crime Complaint Center ( www.ic3.gov ).
Report grant scams. Never respond to any schemes that try to get you to pay money or give your personal information for an HHS grant. If you receive such a call or message, submit a hotline complaint or call 1-800-HHS-TIPS (1-800-447-8477; TTY 1-800-377-4950).
