Babies, children and adults may have TBM. Symptoms include difficulty breathing, wheezing or a barking dry cough.

Tracheomalacia. Lung and Respiratory System. What is tracheomalacia? Tracheomalacia in a newborn occurs when the cartilage in the windpipe, or trachea, has not developed properly. Instead of being rigid, the walls of the trachea are floppy, resulting in breathing difficulties soon after birth.
Tracheomalacia and bronchomalacia both refer to airway collapse. This occurs when the child’s airway, or trachea, is abnormally shaped, or too soft and pliable, or both. The trachea typically has C-shaped rings of cartilage that help the airway stay open during exhalation.
Direct Laryngoscopy (LAYR inn GOSS koh pee) to look at the vocal cords (larynx). Bronchoscopy (BRAHN koh SKAH pee) to look at the airways in the lungs (bronchi). If your child is diagnosed with tracheomalacia, the doctor may suggest other tests to find out the cause, or decide on the best treatment.
