1 Ιαν 2007 · Mentoring is a learning process where helpful, personal, and reciprocal relationships are built while focusing on achievement, and providing emotional support.
Mentors support novice teachers in the critical stages of their learning, which has an effect on novice teachers’ ability to engage in teaching and to stay in the teaching profession for years.
Traditional mentoring’s emphasis on “unlocking” inner developmental realms of the student has a long history in educational theory. It can be seen in Plato's theory of recollection, through Rousseau and his followers in educational theory, such as Kant and Pestalozzi.
