1 Ιαν 2019 · This review paper presents a concept analysis using Rodgers (2000) evolutionary process to define and clarify the concept of the theory-practice gap as part of a doctoral study. In so doing it provides a deeper understanding of the concept to enable its consistent application within nurse education.
However, the theory-practice gap has long been an issue for clinical learning for nursing students. This study sought to explore the experiences and perceptions of nursing student when applying theory into practice during their clinical learning.
Theory‐practice gap is a reverberative theme in nursing education and practice with the potential to impede advances in nursing practice and patient safety. The professional and bureaucratic work conflict has been proposed as an explanatory model for the existence of the theory practice gap. What this paper adds.
9 Ιουλ 2024 · Our analysis outcomes revealed that the theory-practice gap in nursing is influenced by misunderstandings regarding clinical nursing, difficulties faced in clinical settings, and an absence of cooperation between academic institutions and clinical settings.
Mentoring Up theory explains five phases of mentoring: seeding, opening, laddering, equalising and reframing. The initial phases are periods of relationship discovery (seeding) and testing (opening). Laddering is an intense period of reciprocal interactions between mentors and protégés.
While the theory of Mentoring up would benefit from testing and further refinement, including the perspective of the mentor, it is a strong starting point to provide a foundation for a critical professional responsibility in nursing.
