Surgical Interventions for Otitis Externa. Although treating otitis externa can be challenging, most chronic and recurrent cases can be medically treated and successfully managed, especially when underlying causes are addressed.

There are 5 general goals of otitis externa treatment: Resolve discomfort and pain. Remove debris and discharge. Eliminate infection from the external and middle ears. Reverse chronic pathologic changes, when possible. Identify and treat the primary cause of the otitis. Topical Therapy
Otitis therapy consists of identifying and controlling all the factors involved and considering medical options, including topical and systemic therapy; these should be co-adjuvated by ear cleaning and, when needed, by ear flushing. Length of treatment and prognosis varies based on causes and factors.
