Use line charts to display a series of data points that are connected by lines. Analysts use line charts to emphasize changes in a metric on the vertical Y-axis by another variable on the horizontal X-axis. Often, the X-axis reflects time, but not always. Line charts are also known as line plots.
We can know the trend of growth by looking at the line in a line graph that connects the data points, whereas in a scatter plot a line of regression or the 'line of best fit is drawn which depicts the relationship between two different sets of data along the x-axis and the y-axis.

A trend line (also called the line of best fit) is a line we add to a graph to show the general direction in which points seem to be going. Think of a "trend" as a pattern in math. Whatever shape you see on a graph or among a group of data points is a trend.
