1 Μαρ 1998 · There can be little doubt that Peter here conditions this abundant kingdom entrance upon making our calling and election sure by persevering in the development and maintenance of Christian character qualities. Faith alone will not be effective in securing this abundant entrance.
Peter was a central leader in the early church (Matt 16:18), despite denying Jesus three times (Mark 14:66–72). After Jesus restored him (John 21:15–19), Peter would go on to preach at Pentecost (Acts 2), escape from prison (Acts 12:1–17), and carry the gospel throughout the Roman Empire.

a. Be even more diligent to make your call and election sure: This shows how we can be sure that God called us, and that we are His elect. It is by doing these things spoken of in 2 Peter 1:5-7 (faith, virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love).
2 Peter 1:5. The Proper Response to Christian Privilege.—The apostle has been reminding his readers of the Christian promises and privileges. Such reminders are always the basis on which is laid some earnest call to duty. In 2 Peter 1:5, the apostle says, “beside this”; or better, “on this very account.”.
