3 Ιουλ 2004 · Peter has already laid the foundation for the Christian’s exertion. In verses 1-4, Peter emphasizes the sovereignty of God in salvation. Salvation has been accomplished by God, through Christ, apart from human works or merit. Peter also stresses the sufficiency of God’s provisions for our salvation and sanctification.
Τιμιος (precious, from τιμη, value), three times by Peter (1 Peter 1:7 of faith; 2 Peter 1:19 of the blood of Christ; 2 Peter 1:4 of Christ's promises). Μεγιστα is the elative superlative used along with a positive adjective (τιμια). That ye may become (ινα γενησθε).

Peter was a central leader in the early church (Matt 16:18), despite denying Jesus three times (Mark 14:66–72). After Jesus restored him (John 21:15–19), Peter would go on to preach at Pentecost (Acts 2), escape from prison (Acts 12:1–17), and carry the gospel throughout the Roman Empire.
