Norris Reservoir in east Tennessee extends 73 miles up the Clinch River and 56 miles up the Powell from Norris Dam. It was the first dam TVA built, and is named for Senator George Norris of Nebraska, author of the legislation that created TVA. Norris is a popular tourist and recreation destination.
Recreational boaters generally require TWO generators to be running for adequate water levels for boating. TVA generally releases water in TWO generators on weekends only from Memorial Day through Labor Day, depending on rainfall amounts during the summer.
Next-day release schedules are usually available by 6 p.m. of the current day. Observed water levels also are updated periodically throughout the day. Predicted water levels are updated at least once a day, by 1 p.m. Eastern time, and may be updated more frequently when conditions warrant.
