The Arabian Gulf Digital Archive (AGDA) is the result of a collaboration between two national archives, the UK and the UAE. It brings to life two centuries of the history of the Gulf region and delivers unprecedented access to primary source material for historical research.

The United Arab Emirates (the UAE or the Emirates) is a country in the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula located on the southeastern coast of the Persian Gulf and the northwestern coast of the Gulf of Oman. The UAE consists of seven emirates and was founded on 2 December 1971 as a federation, after UK armed forces left the region.
The history of those days from the first official announcement that the UAE would come into existence until the day of the Union announcement and the subsequent events provides an interesting insight into the difficulties and steps that took place to provide the framework for this new nation.

History. The UAE’s rich history is rooted in trade and tied to Islam, which came to the region in AD 630. The Emirates’ location between Europe and the Far East attracted merchants from India and China and was prized by Europeans, particularly the Portuguese, Dutch and British.
