10 Νοε 2021 · In 1923, U-M football coach Fielding Yost was inspired by a University of Wisconsin tradition of players carrying along live badgers when the team entered the stadium. But unlike the Wisconsin badgers, wolverines are not native to the state of Michigan. The school got its mascot from the longstanding nickname belonging to Michiganders in general.
A mascot hadn’t been established by 1923 when head coach Fielding Yost, reportedly inspired by the University of Wisconsin’s practice of bringing a live badger to games, sought live wolverines for the Michigan sidelines.

Biff was a wolverine who served as a team mascot at University of Michigan football games and was later kept in a small zoo at the University of Michigan in the 1920s and 1930s. In the mid-1920s, before the acquisition of a live wolverine, the University of Michigan used a mounted and stuffed wolverine, also named "Biff", as the team mascot.
28 Σεπ 2018 · In 1948, artist Arthur Evans designed the logo we now know as “Wolverbear.” Bennie Oosterbaan was starting his first season as head football coach this very same year. Seeing the new logo as inspiration, Oosterbaan channeled his inner Yost and decided it was time for Michigan to have a mascot again.
