Upali Newspapers (Private) Limited (UNL) is a Sri Lankan media company which publishes a number of national newspapers and magazines. UNL was founded by Upali Wijewardene, nephew of media mogul D. R. Wijewardena. [1]

6 Οκτ 2024 · The Island, published by Upali Newspapers Ltd., celebrates its 43rd anniversary this week. Launched in October 1981 based on a concept by the late Upali Wijewardene, founder of the Upali Group of Companies. The first issue of the Island was a Sunday newspaper followed by the daily paper.

The birth of that tradition goes back four decades to Oct 04, 1981 at 223, Bloemendhal Road, Colombo-13 where Upali Newspapers Ltd. (UNL) is located.
