17 Ιουλ 2005 · The gut string sound is especially appropriate for Bluegrass. The tone is thick and punchy and they're great for slapping too. I'd recommend a set of Efrano, Lenzner or LaBella guts.
Jazz, bluegrass, folk..."Pizz" strings: Bluegrass players, mostly you are plucking the string, but don't be afraid to have a nice sustain or growl on the bass. Think of it as having a sports car.
La Bella has a unique selection of upright bass strings. The Supernils are popular with the Rockabilly crowd and some bluegrasss players. The Black Tapewound strings were made famous by Jazz pro Ron Carter who uses them and also helped develop them with La Bella.

String Set-Up For Bluegrass. The mainstay Bluegrass bass setup of yesterday was to position the strings high 12mm or higher on a plywood bass. Musicians favored a ‘thumpy’ percussive beat. This allowed for the slapping as well as the plucking of the bass.
20 Ιουν 2022 · I played a bluegrass-centric festival this weekend with my (non-bluegrass) band and saw a ton of really good upright bass players. I only saw one bassist use gut strings (with steel underneath) and zero with nylon strings.
