Since that time, four new badges, commonly known as “jump wings,” have been created for Army parachutists, as well as a special “combat star” to indicate that the recipient participated in an airborne drop as part of combat operations.

A parachutist who completes an airborne jump into a combat zone is authorized to wear a combat jump device on their Parachutist Badge, turning it into a Combat Parachutist Badge. The device consists of a star or arrangements of stars, indicating the number of combat jumps (up to five) conducted by the paratrooper. [ 8 ]
28 Οκτ 2021 · In the 82nd Airborne, many of our senior NCOs wore one or more small gold stars on their jump wings, each gold star indicating a combat jump in WWII. (The 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division made four combat jumps in WWII: Sicily, Italy, Normandy and Holland.)
