It lies about 2,300 miles (3,700 kilometers) southwest of the continental United States, 2,800 miles (4,400 kilometers) south of Alaska, and 2,600 miles (4,200 kilometers) north of Tahiti.
U.S. Territories Map: The United States of America holds claim to 16 territories outside of the United States. These range from Puerto Rico, with over 140 smaller islands and over 3 million residents, to uninhabited territories (and disputed territories) such as Bajo Nuevo Bank, Navassa Island, Serranilla Bank, and Wake Island.
The Pacific Islands span a vast area of the Pacific Ocean, from Indonesia in the west to Easter Island in the east. The region includes more than 20,000 islands, including the largest island of New Guinea, shared by Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.
