Contact 811 Before You Dig: Contact USA North 811 at least two (2) working days (not including the date of notification) and up to 14 calendar days before you dig. Only operators who are members of the notification center will be notified. Compare your list of affected operators determined in Step 1 with the list

If it is not life-threatening call the utility owner. If you need emergency numbers, you can find contacts on our Emergency Contact page or text “er” and your ticket number to DIGALT (344-258) to receive emergency contacts for that ticket (data rates may apply) or call 811.
Contact USA North 811 at least two working days before you start your project. Wait for the utility partners to respond or locate their utilities. Confirm all utility partners on your ticket have responded and your start time has passed. Dig safely around your site and respect the utility markings.
Call 811 Before You Dig. Calling 811 or visiting www.call811.com has proven to be the foremost preventive measure in excavation safety and damage prevention. Research has revealed that if someone calls 8-1-1 before they dig, they have a 99 percent chance of avoiding an incident, injury, harm to the environment and even death.
Every contractor excavating at a job site must have his or her own USA identification (ticket) number for the excavation work he or she is performing. An excavation permit is not valid without the identification number. The regional notification center call is free when you dial 8-1-1.
