  1. 22 Ιαν 2013 · I have two Mosins -- a full-length 91/30, and an M44. I just refinished the stock on the M44. I used some furniture stripper from Home Depot and it took the Soviet shellac right off. This left the naked birch, with very nice graining and some antique-looking blemishes and dings.

  2. 3 Μαΐ 2011 · I have used Lindsead Oil on several of my Mosin Nagant stocks that I have restored over the years and they have turned out very well. I lightly sand the stocks to prep them, then coat them with two coatings of the oil.

  3. Best way to refinish Mosin-Nagant stocks is to strip the finish, and then apply a paste of 1/3 Turpentine, 1/3 Boiled Linseed Oil, and 1/3 Beeswax. (This is what the Finnish military used to refinish captured Mosin rifles during the Continuation War.)

  4. When acquiring a Mosin Nagant rifle, coming across one with its original stock finish intact is a rarity. Presently, most rifles feature a shellac finish, suitable for World War II-era Soviet. However, numerous alternatives exist for refinishing, including linseed oil or pine tar, which were historically prevalent choices.

  5. 21 Ιουν 2012 · For my Hungarian M44, I used some mineral oil after sanding it down and then sealed it with tru oil, then I polished with some butchers wax. It worked pretty well, if you like a glossy look. I'll post some pics.

  7. 21 Δεκ 2020 · I have a 1939 Mosin-Nagant rifle. The metal is in great shape, but it came with this hideous stock. It has been refinished at one time and appears to have poly on it. I'd like to return it to some facsimile of how it would have looked during WWII.
