For dueling, most people will advise using a tri-cree in-hilt lighting system. The blade is just an empty tube, so there's nothing in it to break. If you do hit something so hard that the blade bends or break, it's pretty cheap to replace it; a pixel blade is over $100 to replace.
When you are ready to connect your saber to a computer or other device, you need to make sure the saber is either on, or in idle mode (not in deep sleep). When looking for the saber on your computer, it may show as "Unknown Device" until it pairs.

Vader's Vault, Sabertrio, and Bendu Armory are my top 3. Probs your best bet will be the pach store, very very good value sabers. something like saberforge is a pretty good choice as well, which do decent, basic designs with just an led in them for decent prices.
