VCV Rack 2 is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux; source code also available for download. Some devs, like NYSTHI and Alright Devices (Chronoblob2) still have their plugins in beta and haven't made it into the VCV Rack library yet for Rack 2. But there are many in the library already. Rack 2 installs separately to Rack 1, so you can have both installed.
In the wild and woolly world of software modulars, VCV Rack would be hard to beat, for several reasons. First, it’s free (though certain options are paid). Second, it’s supported by several dozen third-party developers who offer free modules, some of them incredibly useful, as add-ons.
