The Riverside County Vector Control provides services to mid-western Riverside County and the Palo Verde Valley area outside the city limits of Blythe. Services are also provided to contract cities which include Banning, Beaumont, Calimesa, Hemet, Menifee, Moreno Valley, Murrieta, Perris, San Jacinto, Temecula, and Wildomar.
The Riverside County Vector Control Program conducts Mosquito population studies throughout the year. Encephalitis virus surveillance traps or CO2 traps have been stationed in the western portion of Riverside County and in the unincorporated areas around the City of Blythe.
Vector Control. Vector Control is the protection of public health through the identification, prevention, and control of pests (typically insects and rodents) that transmit infectious diseases such as West Nile Virus and Hantavirus.
To protect the public health from vectors and vector-borne diseases in the most cost effective and efficient way. The Northwest Mosquito Abatement District was formed on December 28, 1959 to control mosquitoes in the northwest portion of Riverside County encompassing 150 square miles.
In an effort to lower the number of mosquitoes and reduce the risk of disease transmission to people by infected mosquitoes, the District treats areas with elevated virus activity. These wide-area applications are typically conducted by air or by truck. Scheduled applications are posted here.
25 Αυγ 2023 · Due to recent positive West Nile virus mosquito test sample results, the Riverside County Vector Control Program has scheduled an ultra-low volume ground application using truck- mounted sprayers to reduce the number of adult mosquitoes.
At present, the District provides vector control services (mosquito, flies, rats, Africanized honeybees, black flies, midges and occasionally other vectors of minor public health importance) over an area of 350 square miles with a population of approximately 850,000. District Coverage Map.
