The Ventura County Sheriff’s Headquarters Patrol Station has teamed up with several local auto body repair shops to create the “Etch and Catch” program in order to deter would-be thieves and to track stolen catalytic converters.
To combat the rise in catalytic converter theft, engraving or etching a unique identifier onto the converter has proven to be an effective solution. This involves permanently marking the converter’s surface with a VIN, serial number, or other custom identifier using a laser or engraving tool.
