Vestibular migraine is the most common neurological cause of vertigo among adults. It typically affects women in their 40s, especially those with a previous history of migraine headache [Beh, 2019]. People with vestibular migraine also often have a history of motion sickness and a family history of migraine [Beh, 2019]. Symptoms
A vestibular migraine (VM) is a neurological disease that causes vertigo. Vertigo makes you feel dizzy and off balance. Studies show vestibular migraine is the second most common reason why people have vertigo. Other names for a vestibular migraine include migraine-associated vertigo (MAV), migraine-related vestibulopathy and migrainous vertigo.
Vestibular migraine can cause vestibular or balance symptoms with or without an actual headache. Vestibular migraine isn’t fully understood, but seems to result from overlapping pathways that modulate pain and vestibular inputs into the brain.
