Sepsis is defined as SIRS with (probable or documented) presence of bacterial, viral or fungal infection. MODS: Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome as a result of SRIS or sepsis. Systemic inflammatory response syndrome is considered present if dogs demonstrate at least 2 and cats at least 3 of the following 4 abnormalities.
