Im running Virtualbox on a Ubuntu 12.04 server (host) and I'm running a Windows 7 as guest os. Im using the (virtual) Intel PRO/1000 MT network card. I get good network performance for download using both nat and bridged network settings but upload speed is really slow using nat.

The first step of this, of course, is to put the existing image on the VM, and in order to do that, I need to PXE boot the VM. This is failing on Virtualbox on a Windows host, Virtualbox on a Mac host, and VMWare Workstation on a Windows host, but I am able to PXE boot a physical computer and image it with no issues. The VM does get a valid IP.

(VirtualBox version 5.1.14, the manual doesn't say that default configuration location is changed after 4.0 ) When I read the section, I was trying to PXE boot install a Debian system.
For VirtualBox with a Linux guest, these are the steps to mount a shared folder: Use the VirtualBox host's application, VirtualBox Manager, to specify host folders to share. Make sure VirtualBox Guest Additions are installed in the VirtualBox guest. In the Linux guest, the mount command should show a line that the share was mounted.
