In 1875 was founded the Wallace Brothers, a co-partnership of Robert Wallace, his sons Robert B., William J., Henry L., George H., Frank A. and his sons-in-law W.J. Leavenworth and D.E. Morris. The firm manufactured silverplate flatware on a base of cast steel and silverplated holloware.
The standard mark identifies your item as being silver. The mark that indicates sterling silver is called the lion passant. Two variations of this mark have been used throughout history. The first was known as the lion passant guardant, with the lion’s head facing towards the viewer.
One of the preferred symbols was the "crown", used by Sheffield Assay Office on sterling silver wares. There can be very little doubt that Sheffield electroplaters wanted their plate-mark to look very similar to a Sheffield Assay mark.
