The T&P valve is designed to relieve excess pressure, which can build up due to thermal expansion when heating water.
26 Σεπ 2024 · First, turn off the gas to the water heater, or flip the breaker if it’s electric. Close the cold water cut-off valve going into the water heater. Open the valve at the bottom and the pressure relief valve for a minute to drain a little water out of the tank and relieve the pressure.
To fix a leaking pressure relief valve, first, check the water temperature setting and ensure it is around 120 degrees F. If the leak persists, you may need to examine the valve for mineral buildup and signs of corrosion. In some cases, the valve may need to be replaced.
