CHSSA - Debate Judge Instructions. The California High School Speech Association worked with coaches across the state of California to create judging instructions for the four CHSSA sanctioned debate events (Parliamentary Debate, Public Forum, Policy, and Lincoln-Douglas).
Why debate? By preparing for and participating in debates, pupils learn to find and use information to support their arguments. They also learn how to present their ideas clearly and persuasively.

Rules for the debate. The first speaker for the affirmative side who is sitting next to the chairperson begins. Then, as indicated by the arrows in the diagram, the first speaker for the negative side responds. In this way, the speakers for both sides speak in turn.
