20 Φεβ 2024 · Here are five examples of current bank scams you should look out for: 1. Advance-fee scam. An advance-fee scam involves an attacker tricking their target into paying a deposit or other upfront charges before they agree to ship a product or schedule a service.
How To Recognize Phishing. Scammers use email or text messages to try to steal your passwords, account numbers, or Social Security numbers. If they get that information, they could get access to your email, bank, or other accounts. Or they could sell your information to other scammers.
Text messages: If a message appears to be from your bank asking you to sign in or enter your PIN, it’s a scam. Banks never ask customers for this information by text. Urgent action: A common theme in phishing emails is the urgent call to action. Cybercriminals want to scare you into acting immediately without thinking.
If you haven't enabled text notifications, be suspicious: The message purportedly from your bank is almost certainly a scam, and you should report it to your bank and the FTC (see below).
