OBJECTIVES: To advance a comprehensive yet pragmatic and widely accessible framework to support the conceptualisation of self-care in its totality, in order to facilitate the development, commissioning, evaluation and study of self-care initiatives across a variety of settings.
12 Ιαν 2024 · Emergent patterns found that all definitions fit within three conceptualisations of self-care: self-care as an individual practice, self-care as informed by interpersonal interaction, or self-care as shaped by structural factors, noting that some definitions captured more than one of these categories.
Results and conclusions In this study we sought to clarify the concept of self-care by examining in detail the definition of self-care. Content analysis of 139 definitions identified seven components of the definition and a range of terms that were applicable to each component.
Because self-care involves your belief systems and values, it is important to treat self-care as multidimensional with personal, professional, and cultural implications. Self-care needs to be respected in regard to individual preferences, beliefs, cultures, identities, abilities, work settings, and life situations.
