The Lowcountry & Resort Islands Region of South Carolina includes the four, southern-most counties in the state, Beaufort, Jasper, Hampton, and Colleton, which are bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean and on the west by the Savannah River and the state of Georgia.
The Lowcountry (sometimes Low Country or just low country) is a geographic and cultural region along South Carolina's coast, including the Sea Islands. The region includes significant salt marshes and other coastal waterways, making it an important source of biodiversity in South Carolina.

It is between the Upstate and Lowcountry. The Lowcountry is made of the southern counties of the state.
1. Charleston. This beautiful pocket-sized city is easy to explore on foot. Picturesque antebellum homes line cobblestoned streets where horse-drawn carriages clip-clop along. 2. Middleton Place Plantation. A former rice plantation, this National Historic Landmark, Middleton Place, is around a 40-minute drive from Charleston.

The South Carolina Lowcountry has many spectacular sights for visitors to explore. Moss draped historic districts await visitors with museums and gracefully aged churches. Wildlife sanctuaries, interpretative centers and animal refuges are in abundance.
