There are two main translations of the Bible into Japanese widely in use today—the Japanese New Interconfessional Translation Bible (新共同訳聖書) and the New Revised Bible (新改訳聖書).
Under the severe persecution, we could not trace any further development in Bible translation in Japan for three centuries. However the wave of the World Evangelization and the Bible translation in the 18th‐19th centuries spurred Japanese Bible translation abroad.
Yamato Bible Hall established in Yokohama; Masahisa Uemura runs a "Revision of the Japanese Translated Bible" in the Gospel News, and Goro Takahashi also proposes a retranslation of the New Testament in Kokumin no Tomo.

The current edition, which involved major revisions, was released in 2017 (the 2017 edition). It is the mission of the Organization for the New Japanese Bible Translation to continue revising its translation, and for this purpose, it continues to use its resources to enable improvements.
