Storage is the creation of a permanent record of information. In order for a memory to go into storage (i.e., long-term memory), it has to pass through three distinct stages: Sensory Memory, Short-Term Memory, and finally Long-Term Memory. These stages were first proposed by Richard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin (1968).
A volume is a named logical area of the physical disk. It serves as a type of container for the file system and provides a structure for accessing data. In this sense, a volume can be thought of as a logical disk, rather than the physical disk itself.
Storage refers to the process of collecting, organizing, and preserving digital data and information in a systematic and accessible manner for future retrieval and use.
11 Ιαν 2016 · A Disk = A block device = A storage device, e.g. SSD, hard disk. A section of a storage device is called as partition which is in no way filesystem that what is done to it via OS. As to meaning of the volume, there are 2 types either physical or logical.
25 Ιαν 2024 · Disks and drives are physical storage spaces that are now often combined into single entities, like HDDs, whereas partitions and volumes are logical separations of a disk that can store data and be accessed by the user.
9 Μαΐ 2024 · Volumes and partitions don’t have a perfect hierarchical relationship. A partition is a logical division of a disk (physical or virtual). A volume is a logical assembly of one or more partitions which the operating system knows how to use as a mass storage container.
A volume, on the other hand, refers to a logical storage unit that can span across one or more partitions or physical disks. It is a higher-level concept that allows for more flexibility in managing storage space. Volumes are typically created within partitions and can be dynamically resized without the need to delete and recreate them.
