UNRAVELLING NATIONALISM & PATRIOTISM: LOVE FOR YOUR COUNTRY OR HATE FOR THE OTHER? Across the world in the last few years instances of hate speech, intolerance has been proliferating and are on ever high.
Hate, within the context of a romantic relationship, arises mainly from a relational betrayal. Researchers have proposed a concept related to romantic hate, romantic jealousy, which describes the negative attitudes, anger, and fear associated with having a relationship partner (Yoshimura, 2004).
With this in mind, it was intriguing to find out whether there is any difference (or similarity) between two nationalities, Russian and Croatian, regarding the attitude towards two notions: a value love and its anti-value hatred.
Love is central to the writing of James Baldwin (1924-1987). However, the importance of the notion of love in his novels has long been overlooked. In this thesis, the notion of love in Baldwin’s Another Country (1962) is researched.
