Logic design, basic organization of the circuitry of a digital computer. All digital computers are based on a binary logic system—1/0, on/off, yes/no. Computers use components called logic gates that receive an input signal, process it, and change it into an output signal.

Logical statements are those that state something about objects in the domain of discourse, or something about a logical relationship between sentence variables. Meta-logical statements, on the other hand, say something about one or more logical statements.
This appendix provides a brief discussion of the basics of logic design. It does not replace a course in logic design nor will it enable you to design significant working logic systems. If you have little or no exposure to logic design, however, this appendix will provide sufficient background to understand all the material in this book.
