The most common strategy used at rune dragons is to pay little to moderate attention using melee, 90+ combat stats, praying piety + protect from magic, and wearing justiciar armour, dragonfire shield and dragon hunter lance for an average of 45 kills/hr.

Stand under it and whenever galveck shoots his fire bomb, move a few tiles then keep standing under the rune dragon. The friends will kill it for you. Rune dragon is often harder than galveck for a lot of irons.
With base 90 Melee stats and a ghrazi rapier, which is the best stab weapon, using melee against rune dragons is a viable option. Players will have to tank in order to survive, so Bandos or Barrows equipment is recommended along with Protect from Magic and Piety in tandem.
