Your baby will need to have muscles strong enough to hold their head up on their own and control their movement. When they do, they’re ready to practise sitting. Your baby should be showing signs of sitting by 8 months.
Don’t worry if your baby isn’t sitting up unassisted at 6 months old! The range for this development milestone is between 6 and 8 months of age, and every baby develops at their own pace. Before you know it, your baby will be able to sit up with support and then a little later sit up unassisted.
