10 Νοε 2022 · Rh incompatibility occurs when a person who’s Rh-negative becomes pregnant with a fetus with Rh-positive blood. With Rh incompatibility, your immune system reacts to this difference (known as incompatibility) and creates antibodies.
During a pregnancy, Rh antibodies made in a woman's body can cross the placenta and attack fetal blood cells. This can cause a serious type of anemia in the fetus in which red blood cells are destroyed faster than the body can replace them. Red blood cells carry oxygen to all parts of the body.

26 Ιουν 2022 · If the birthing parent is Rh-negative with antibodies and the fetus’s blood is Rh-positive, there is an indication that the birthing parent’s immune system may attack the fetal blood. While this is usually not an issue with the first birth, it may cause complications in the second birth.
If the mother has not already been sensitized to Rh positive blood, she may be given Rh immunoglobulin (RhIg). This will prevent being sensitized if the baby is Rh positive. Sometimes an incompatibility may happen when the mother is blood type O and the baby is either A or B.
