The Puerto Rico Trench is located on the boundary between the North Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, parallel to and north of Puerto Rico, where the oceanic trench reaches the deepest points in the Atlantic Ocean.
Puerto Rico Trench, submarine depression in the North Atlantic Ocean, roughly parallel to the northern coast of the island of Puerto Rico and lying about 75 miles (120 km) to the north. The Puerto Rico Trench is about 1,090 miles (1,750 km) long and 60 miles (100 km) wide.
23 Ιουν 2023 · Mona Island, located between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, is a natural reserve known for its unique flora and fauna. Furthermore, the Puerto Rico Trench, some 70 miles directly to the north, is the largest and the deepest trench in the Atlantic Ocean at 27,600ft (8,400m).
The northern boundary of Puerto Rico is marked by the 800-kilometer-long Puerto Rico Trench, which is the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean, with a maximum depth of 8,648 meters (Figure 1). It is the eighth deepest trench in the world and the deepest seafloor outside the Pacific Ocean.

29 Νοε 2023 · In 2002 and 2003, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) conducted a major research study of the Puerto Rico Trench. Situated just north of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Puerto Rico Trench separates the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
The Puerto Rico Trench (Figure 2) lies to the north of Puerto Rico and is the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean, with water depths exceeding 8,300 meters (5.2 miles). Its depth is comparable to the deep trenches in the Pacific Ocean.
