Forewing: When the wings are open, they are completely white with irregular black spots. When they are closed, the spots remain visible. Hindwing: When open, the wings are white and covered with black spots, but far fewer than the forewings.
White-spotted Sable moths have black wings and a black body. Large white spots are visible across its wings. These white spots are backed by fine white lines across its body.
A white moth with small black spots on the forewing, however, the number of black spots varies greatly from largely white examples which are almost entirely plain to those with many more spots that may even join together to form streaks along the wing veins.
15 Οκτ 2023 · The Harris’ three spot moths are white with black wavy lines across their whole body. They also have a few brown spots on their wings and back. Their hindwings are almost all white and only show during flight or when spread. They have a wingspan of around 1¼ inches.
24 Σεπ 2022 · The white-striped black moth is an attractive winged insect with an identifiable white stripe on black wings. The native black moth has a wingspan of 0.8” (2 cm), making it a relatively small moth in North America. The black moth is found all the way from California to North Carolina.
What colour moth have you spotted? Description: The black forewings have striking creamy-white stripes and the hindwings are bright red, yellow or orange. Flies on warm days. When & where: July-September. A range of habitats including rough ground, coastal cliffs and gardens.
7 Μαρ 2012 · The two large black spots were very visible on both sides of the moth. The three smaller black flecks seen in this photo were not fully symmetric with those on other wing (can post a photo of the other side of helpful).
