When Starbucks acquired Teavana in November 2012, people were still conducting most of their shopping in retail locations.

With all this success, Teavana caught the eye of many industry onlookers, including the popular coffeehouse Starbucks. Now under its radar, Starbucks undertook the process of wooing the Teavana board to purchase the successful tea business.
6 Αυγ 2017 · During the end of 2012, Starbucks announced its acquisition of Teavana, a high-end retailer of loose leaf tea. The coffee chain dreamed big and announced in 2014 that it was ready to conquer the 90 billion dollar tea market.
Why Teavana Failed? In a significant move in July 2017, Starbucks announced it would be closing all 397 Teavana physical locations within the following six months. The primary reason cited for this drastic decision was underperformance.
10 Αυγ 2024 · In January 2016, Starbucks announced that its concept tea bars in New York and Beverly Hills would cease being Teavana tea bars and become Starbucks coffee shops in their stead. Only the Teavana store in University Village near the University of Washington would remain open for business.
9 Φεβ 2021 · But why did Teavana close? Teavana’s closure was partly due to underperformance. Teavana, now owned by Starbucks announced in 2017 the mass shutdown of all of the Teavana locations.
