Short answer: You’ll get better quality using component to a converter, at no additional latency cost. The analog to digital converter in a Wii2HDMI performs basically the same as the chip in a dedicated YPbPr-to-HDMI converter but they tend to be of lesser quality and don’t always have good QC.
Component video uses component cables (red-green-blue-audiored-audiowhite). The Wii doesn't come with a component cable, but it can be bought separately for cheap. Similar to the composite cable, the Wii component cable has the proprietary Wii AV end, but the other end is where it's different.
The $20 Portta component to hdmi converters you find on Amazon are fine as long as it’s a converter and not an upscaler. Upscalers at that price make it laggy. If you need to deinterlace 480i content then I’d spend a bit more on a Retrotink 2x Pro. If money is no object get the Retrotink 5x.
